Hints : Always check the unnumbered marks on a graduated cylinder to see how many sections there are and what measure. Also, sometimes you have to estimate a measurement between two marks. Prove to yourself that both graduated cylinders on the right contain 25 ml.
FOR LOW ACHIEVER STUDENTS
Teaching Activity 1
Learning Outcomes:Teaching Activity 1
• To understand and use the vocabulary related to volume of liquid.
Materials :
• Cup , pail, water
Procedures :
1. Teacher introduces the vocabulary ‘full’, ‘half full’ and ‘empty’.
2. Teacher devide the class into groups of five students and have them work in their cooperative groups.
3. Teacher appoint one student in the group to be the recorder.
4. Teacher gives each group a set of teaching aids.
5. The students fill the pail with water by using a cup.
6. The students record their finding in the table below.
7. Teacher gives the summary of the study and suggest the students to view the blog http://www.semathematics.blogspot.com to see the video clips and play the games in order to enhance the understanding.
Teaching Activity 2
Learning Outcomes:
• To measure volumes of liquid using non-standard measurements.
Materials :
• Various containers of different sizes ( such as glass, bowl, bottle, mineral water bottle), cup , water , blog - http://www.semathematics.blogspot.com
Procedures :
1. Devide the class into groups of five students and have them work in their cooperative groups.
2. Appoint one student in the group to be the recorder.
3. Give each group a set of containers in different sizes, a cup and some water in pail.
4. The students fill the containers in different sizes with water.
5. Repeat for the other containers.
6. The students record their finding in the table (Table 1).
7. The teacher also do revision with the students about half full, full and empty.
8. Students are suggested to visit the blog- http://www.semathematics.blogspot.com to see the vidoe clips and play the games in order to enhance the understanding.
9. Teacher gives the summary of the study.
10. Students are given a worksheet (worksheet 1) to do as a reinforcement. After several minutes, teacher discuss the answer with the students.
